York Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winners of its 2026 Concerto Competition: Christie Cheung and Oliver (Zihuan) Xu.
Christie Cheung will be performing on October 10, 2026 and Oliver (Zihuan) Xu will be performing on November 21, 2026 with the York Symphony Orchestra.

YSO Concerto Competition
The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) is excited to announce the launch of our annual concerto competition beginning in 2026.
Our goal is to support the development of young artists.
The winner will receive $500, will be widely advertised to showcase his/her talent, and will perform a concerto with our orchestra in the fall of 2026.
The orchestra rehearses in Richmond Hill and performs in Aurora, north of Richmond Hill.
What You Need To Know
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have been born on or after January 1, 2003. There are no citizenship restrictions. Applicants must reside or study in Canada. All orchestral instruments are eligible as well as piano.
Music Selections
Instrumentation must be for a standard symphony orchestra. The orchestral parts must be readily available and accessible.
Application Process
Applicants will record an unedited video recording of one movement of a concerto with accompanist.
They shall include a link to a google drive file or a youtube link on the entry form. Please ensure that the file posted is accessible to anyone who has the link.
Applicants will complete the online application form and the non-refundable entry fee of $50.00 which should be sent as an e-transfer to: yorksymphonyorchestra@hotmail.com.
